Azerbaijan will prepare a national plan to combat air pollution from 2028 through 2035, with a draft due to be submitted to the president by Nov. 1, 2027.

The instruction is contained in an order signed by President Ilham Aliyev, Vesti Baku reported.

The State Commission on Climate Change and Atmospheric Air Protection will develop the plan. It is expected to assess the main sources of pollution and identify measures to reduce harmful emissions.

The work will also focus on expanding air-quality monitoring and digital oversight, while improving public access to environmental information.

The document remains in development. Specific restrictions, emissions-reduction targets and funding sources will be determined in the draft and subsequent decisions.

The Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry said the future measures should improve air quality, strengthen resilience to climate change and protect citizens’ right to a healthy environment.
