Private Doctor Visits Cost Up to 300 Manats in Azerbaijan

Must read

A visit to a private doctor in Azerbaijan may cost from 50 manats to as much as 300 manats, with laboratory tests and additional examinations often billed separately.

That range is equivalent to roughly $29 to $176. A review of medical-service prices cited by Vesti Baku included clinics quoting 80 manats, about $47, and 120 manats, about $71, for a consultation. In one case, the clinic expressly said examinations and tests were not included.

Those examples are not a uniform tariff for every private medical institution. The price varies by clinic, medical specialty, physician and the services included in the appointment.

Why There Is No Single Price

Under Azerbaijan’s law on private medical activity, tariffs for medical services provided under contracts with individuals and organizations are set by agreement between the parties. Private-clinic consultation prices therefore are not generally fixed as a single state-regulated tariff.

Publicly listed prices also show a broad range. The Uzmanlar Medical Center, for example, lists consultations with different specialists at 45, 60, 75 and 100 manats, approximately $26, $35, $44 and $59.

The Initial Quote May Not Be the Final Bill

Patients should ask what the consultation price includes, whether diagnostic procedures are billed separately, whether a follow-up visit carries another fee and how much prescribed tests will cost. When those services are excluded from the quoted appointment price, the final bill can be substantially higher.

The lack of a uniform private-sector price also leaves an affordability question for patients with lower incomes, even when the clinic’s tariff is lawful and disclosed.
