Documents Point to Iranian Order for 90 Russian Missile Launchers

Must read

Russian production documents list an order for 90 helicopter-mounted missile launchers intended for a customer linked to Iran, although the records do not establish whether the equipment was delivered, according to the Financial Times.

The order covers APU-L launchers for light multipurpose guided missiles known as LMUR or Izdeliye 305, weapons used by Russian forces and capable of being guided by an operator in flight, including against moving targets.

Buyer Listed as “K-10”

A 2024 production schedule from Russian missile manufacturer Vympel lists 90 APU-L launchers for a customer identified as “K-10,” the Financial Times reported. The newspaper linked the code to Iran because Russian state arms exporter Rosoboronexport has used it in other defense documents referring to the country.

A May 2024 letter from Vympel management warned suppliers that component delays threatened the timely assembly of APU-L and APU-305 launchers. The associated schedule separately listed Russian defense orders, an export order for China and the K-10 order.

The APU-L carries two missiles and is designed for Mi-28 attack helicopters. Iran has acquired Mi-28 helicopters, but there is no public confirmation that the country has placed the launcher system in service.

Delivery Remains Unconfirmed

The documents show that a production order existed but do not prove that all 90 launchers were manufactured or transferred. Moscow and Tehran have not publicly confirmed this specific transaction.

The report comes amid broader military cooperation between Russia and Iran. Reuters previously reported that Iranian military-linked entities imported at least $2 billion in equipment, explosives and heavy machinery beginning in January 2025 through a network of agencies connected to the Defense Ministry. That reporting does not confirm delivery of the 90 launchers.

The document findings were first reported in Russian by Vesti Baku.
