Kazakhstan Plans 1.7 Million Tons of BTC Oil Exports in 2027

Kazakhstan plans to export 1.7 million metric tons of oil through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline in 2027, 100,000 tons more than the volume expected for this year.

Kazakhstan shipped 1.32 million tons through BTC in the first 10 months of 2026, and its Energy Ministry expects the full-year figure to reach about 1.6 million tons, Vesti Baku reported.

The country exported 1.2 million tons through the pipeline in 2025. The 2027 plan therefore represents an increase of about 42% from last year’s level.

Astana Seeks Capacity for 2.2 Million Tons

Kazakh Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov said the country was prepared to raise shipments through the route to 2.2 million tons and was negotiating with Azerbaijan.

A final decision rests with Baku. Kazakh crude has different characteristics, and increasing its share could affect the quality of the blend transported through BTC.

Higher transit volumes strengthen Azerbaijan’s role as an alternative export route for Caspian oil that bypasses Russian territory. The oil is shipped by tanker from Aktau to Baku and then enters the pipeline to Turkey’s Mediterranean port of Ceyhan.

The 1.7 million-ton figure remains a target. Actual shipments will depend on agreed terms and the delivery schedule.
