BAKU, Azerbaijan — A commission of Azerbaijan’s parliament said a coordinated social-media campaign operating from Turkey is targeting Azerbaijan and relations between the two countries.
The Milli Majlis temporary commission on countering foreign interference and hybrid threats said the campaign uses targeted advertising as well as authentic and fake accounts.
According to the commission, the campaign is intended to undermine trust in state institutions, polarize Azerbaijani society and damage the alliance between Azerbaijan and Turkey.
The commission said it planned to submit information it had collected about people allegedly involved to the relevant Azerbaijani state agencies. It also said such activity could carry liability under Turkish law.
The statement did not identify alleged organizers, disclose advertising spending or publish technical evidence demonstrating coordination. The allegations had not been independently verified as of publication.
The commission urged people in Azerbaijan and Turkey to verify information before sharing it and to be cautious about messages from unknown sources.
