Aliyev Discusses New Infrastructure Projects With BlackRock and GIP

Azerbaijan’s State Oil Fund plans to expand infrastructure investment with BlackRock and Global Infrastructure Partners after joint investments in London’s Gatwick Airport and Italian high-speed rail operator Italo.

President Ilham Aliyev discussed further cooperation with Adebayo Ogunlesi, founder and chairman of Global Infrastructure Partners, according to Vesti Baku.

GIP operates as part of U.S.-based BlackRock. The partnership is anchored by a protocol on long-term cooperation signed in Davos by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan, BlackRock and GIP.

Officials said the cooperation had already moved into specific international assets, with the fund investing alongside GIP in Gatwick Airport and Italo.

The sides discussed additional projects in digital and transport infrastructure, including investment opportunities inside Azerbaijan.

Baku also hosted the Azerbaijan Infrastructure Investment Dialogue, organized by the State Oil Fund and BlackRock. According to official figures cited at the event, the participating companies collectively manage $30 trillion in assets.
