President Ilham Aliyev used the opening of WUF13 in Baku to present Azerbaijan’s urban development agenda, linking heritage preservation, green transport, environmental recovery and the postwar reconstruction of Karabakh and East Zangezur.
The first day of the World Urban Forum in Baku showed that WUF13 is not only about housing and resilient cities. For Azerbaijan, the event is also a chance to position the capital as a platform for global urban policy, investment talks and diplomatic engagement.
Political analyst Rizvan Huseynov says Washington is not seeking to conquer Iran or become trapped in another prolonged regional conflict. In his view, the real strategic issue is control over the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for oil and gas flows toward China and the Asia-Pacific.
