Azerbaijan is marking Eid al-Adha on Wednesday, May 27, one of the main holidays in the Islamic calendar.
The holiday falls on the 10th day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah. This year, the date corresponds to May 27 in the Gregorian calendar.
Holiday prayers are being held in mosques across Azerbaijan. In Baku, prayers were scheduled for 8:00 a.m. at the Ajdarbay Mosque and 9:00 a.m. at the Taza Pir Mosque.
Animal sacrifice may be carried out today and tomorrow in line with Islamic rules, but only at designated sites in Baku, surrounding areas and regions of the country.
The locations have been allocated by Azerbaijan’s Food Safety Agency. The process is being overseen with the participation of religious representatives from the Caucasus Muslims Office.
Under a decision by the Cabinet of Ministers, May 27 and 28 have been declared non-working days in Azerbaijan in connection with Eid al-Adha.
