Azerbaijan-UK Trade Nearly Triples to $3.72 Billion

Must read

Azerbaijan’s trade with the United Kingdom reached $3.72 billion in January-September 2026, 2.8 times the year-earlier level, driven by a sharp increase in Azerbaijani exports as imports from Britain declined.

Figures from Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee show that exports to the United Kingdom rose 14.4-fold to $3.483 billion, while imports of British goods fell 66.7% to $237.8 million, Vesti Baku reported.

UK Received About 15% of Azerbaijan’s Exports

The United Kingdom accounted for about 10% of Azerbaijan’s total foreign trade turnover and 14.5% of the country’s exports during the nine-month period. British goods represented 1.7% of Azerbaijan’s imports.

The United Kingdom was Azerbaijan’s second-largest export destination after Italy. Previously published customs data indicated that non-oil exports to Britain approached $3.48 billion, although the composition of those shipments is important when assessing the broader non-oil sector.

Trade Surplus Exceeded $10.5 Billion

Azerbaijan’s overall foreign trade turnover totaled $37.211 billion in January-September, up 5.2% from a year earlier.

Exports increased 28.3% to $23.865 billion, while imports declined 20.4% to $13.346 billion. The resulting trade surplus reached $10.519 billion, 5.7 times the year-earlier figure.

Oil and gas products accounted for more than 72% of Azerbaijan’s total exports. A steep increase in shipments to one market therefore does not necessarily indicate equivalent growth across the entire non-oil economy without examining the types of goods involved.
