A criminal case against three senior employees of Azerbaijan’s State Tax Service accused of taking 200,000 manats ($117,600) from business owners has been sent to court.

The Anti-Corruption General Directorate under the Prosecutor General investigated the case after receiving information from the tax service itself, according to Vesti Baku.

Prosecutors allege that Eldaniz Ahmadov, deputy head of the Baku Main Department for Operational Tax Control and Accounting Organization; Rustam Mirzayev, deputy head of its Territorial Assignment Department; and Kenan Mammadov, head of the department’s No. 4 division, accepted the money in May 2026.

The payments allegedly came from business owners operating at a shopping center in Baku and were made in exchange for avoiding tax inspections, penalties and other enforcement measures.

All three were charged under Articles 311.3.1 and 311.3.3 of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code, which concern accepting a large bribe by a group acting in prior agreement. The Binagadi District Court ordered them held in pretrial detention.

The case has been sent to the Baku Court of Grave Crimes. The allegations have not been proven in court, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless convicted by a final judgment.
