Baku will test daily vehicle restrictions on five central streets from Oct. 5, expanding a weekend-only pedestrian-zone system that has operated for more than two years.
The Transport Coordination Council approved the change, which was confirmed by the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency, known as AYNA.
Five Streets Covered
The daily restrictions will apply to:
- The section of Zarifa Aliyeva Street after its intersection with Rasul Rza Street;
- Abdulkarim Alizade Street;
- Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev Street;
- Tarlan Aliyarbekov Street;
- Yusif Mammadaliyev Street.
Officials said the plan is intended to connect existing pedestrian areas, improve safety and reduce the environmental impact of traffic in the city center. AYNA also cited potential tourism and business benefits from expanding pedestrian space.
Who Will Retain Access
Residents with individual parking permits will continue to have access, along with emergency and medical services, municipal vehicles and vehicles providing logistics support.
Separate arrangements will be coordinated with government agencies, diplomatic missions, medical organizations and businesses operating within the affected area.
