Even a brief absence from the workplace, such as one hour, may be officially recorded and reflected in an employee’s salary calculation.

Lawyer Akram Hasanov said in Azerbaijan employees who need to leave work during working hours should obtain permission from their employer.

According to him, employment relations are based on mutual agreement and responsibility, while wages are paid for time actually worked and duties performed.

If an employee is absent from the workplace, the employer may deduct payment for that period in accordance with the established procedure.

At the same time, employees who work beyond their normal hours are entitled to higher pay for overtime under labor legislation.

Permission should generally be requested in advance. In urgent situations, the employee may explain and justify the absence afterward.

Hasanov said recording each hour of absence helps ensure accurate salary calculations and protects the legal responsibilities of both the employee and the employer.
