Imported and farm-raised fish are dominating markets across Azerbaijan this summer, while prices remain broadly stable, according to local sellers and market analysts.
The most popular product is trout, which is selling for between 10 and 13 manats per kilogram, depending on size and origin.
Sellers say much of the trout available on the market is imported from Iran. In some markets, it is offered at a flat price of around 12 manats per kilogram regardless of the fish’s weight.
Pike-perch prices vary more widely. Smaller fish can be found for about 7–9 manats per kilogram, while larger specimens weighing around 2 to 2.5 kilograms are sold for as much as 14–15 manats.
Mullet generally costs between 6 and 8 manats per kilogram, while smaller fish, including roach, are available for around 3–4 manats.
Kutum, a popular Caspian fish, is selling for approximately 15 manats per kilogram.
The market also includes frozen fish imported from Turkey and the Black Sea region, as well as live fish supplied by local aquaculture farms.
Many customers say current prices are affordable compared with meat and other food products. Some also expect prices to remain close to present levels through the fall.
Economists monitoring the sector say fish prices have remained relatively stable during the summer season. However, they warn that prices could change in the coming months depending on supply volumes and import conditions.
