Trout Reaches 19 Manats As Fish Prices Rise In Azerbaijan

Prices for several types of fish have risen noticeably in Azerbaijan’s markets in recent weeks, according to local vendors.

Sellers say some fish varieties have increased by 5-7 manats per kilogram, largely due to reduced imports and higher transportation costs.

One of the main reasons cited is the decline in supplies coming through Iran, which previously served as a key route for fish imports to Azerbaijan.

As supply volumes fell, market prices began to climb.

The increase has been particularly visible in trout prices. Imported trout that previously sold for around 12-13 manats per kilogram now reaches 18-19 manats.

Prices for kutum, a popular fish in Azerbaijan, have also risen. It previously sold for about 14-15 manats, but now costs 20-23 manats per kilogram.

Vendors say that as imports decline, consumers are increasingly turning to locally sourced fish, including varieties caught in the Caspian Sea or produced by domestic fish farms.

Economists note that prices could stabilize if supply volumes increase. However, if import disruptions continue, some fish varieties could face temporary shortages on the market.
