What Groceries And Breakfast Cost In Baku: A Look At Local Prices

The authors of the YouTube channel “Sunny Land” visited several fruit and vegetable stands in Baku’s 8th microdistrict, stopped at an Araz supermarket and later ate at a nearby cafe, offering viewers a snapshot of everyday prices in the Azerbaijani capital.

At small neighborhood produce stands, potatoes were selling for 0.80 manat per kilogram, or about $0.47. Eggplants, tomatoes and green beans could be found for around 1 manat, or $0.59, while bell peppers cost between 1 and 1.50 manats, approximately $0.59 to $0.88.

Sour cherries were priced between 5 and 6 manats per kilogram, or roughly $2.94 to $3.53. The video’s authors said cherries appeared to be less widely available and more expensive this year than during the previous season.

Victoria strawberries were offered for 2.30 manats per kilogram, or about $1.35, while other varieties cost around 3 manats, or $1.76. Raspberries were available for 4 manats, approximately $2.35.

Large sweet cherries were selling for between 5.50 and 6.50 manats per kilogram, equivalent to about $3.24 to $3.82.

Other listed prices included gooseberries at around 7 manats, black currants at 9 manats and red currants at between 6 and 10 manats per kilogram. Apricots and cherry plums were priced at about 4 manats per kilogram.

At the Araz supermarket, cabbage cost 2.49 manats, or about $1.46, while discounted zucchini was selling for 1.89 manats, approximately $1.11.

A 100-gram package of Mehmet Efendi Turkish coffee cost 5 manats, or $2.94. A 100-gram package of Beta Earl Grey tea was priced at 2.90 manats, or about $1.71, while baking soda cost 1 manat.

A 400-gram loaf of Ivanovka rye bread was selling for 3.30 manats, approximately $1.94. Locally produced smoked sausage was priced at about 37.30 manats per kilogram, or roughly $21.94.

After shopping, the family visited the İnci Süfrəsi cafe near the Azadlig Prospekti metro station.

A business lunch cost 10 manats per person, or about $5.88. Chicken stroganoff and chicken langet were each priced at 11 manats, approximately $6.47.

Side dishes cost between 4 and 5 manats, salads ranged from 4 to 6 manats and soups were priced at around 4.50 manats.

Breakfast for one person cost 10 manats, while a breakfast set for two was offered for 25 manats, or about $14.71.

The visitors paid a total of 25 manats for meat patties with potatoes, two salads, ayran and tea. They described the portions as generous, the service as fast and the prices as reasonable.
