An official welcoming ceremony was held in Baku for President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who arrived in Azerbaijan on a state visit.

A guard of honor was lined up at the square where the national flags of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan were flying.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev welcomed President Berdimuhamedov. The commander of the guard of honor reported to the Turkmen president, after which the national anthems of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan were played.

The guard of honor then marched in front of the two heads of state. Members of the Azerbaijani delegation were introduced to the president of Turkmenistan, while members of the Turkmen delegation were introduced to President Ilham Aliyev.

On June 22, Ilham Aliyev and Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a one-on-one meeting, followed by talks in an expanded format.

Later the same day, with the participation of the two presidents, an online ceremony was held to present the “Dostlug” oil tanker to Turkmenistan as a gift from Azerbaijan.

The tanker was built at the Baku Shipyard.

The vessel is 141 meters long and 16.9 meters wide, with a draft of 4.54 meters. Its deadweight is 7,875 tons.

The construction of the tanker in Azerbaijan highlights the development of the country’s shipbuilding industry and is also seen as a contribution to strengthening relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

The Baku Shipyard has so far completed projects for the construction of 14 vessels and the repair of more than 170 ships. The shipyard’s current order portfolio includes 17 vessels, with 11 under construction and six at the design stage.
