Nineteen percent of European companies surveyed for the EU Business Climate Report Azerbaijan 2025/2026 said they had already invested in the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions or Nakhchivan, while another 30% said they were prepared to invest if suitable opportunities emerged.
Aytan Akhundova, team leader of the Azerbaijan-European Union Business Forum, presented the findings at the forum in Baku, APA-Economics reported.
A year earlier, 8% of respondents said they had invested in Karabakh and East Zangezur. The figures are not directly comparable, however, because Nakhchivan was added to the group of regions covered by the latest survey question.
Transport and Green Energy Lead Interest
Respondents identified transport infrastructure, alternative and green energy, construction, consulting, agriculture and information and communications technology as the most attractive areas for investment.
The survey included 69 companies from 19 sectors and 29 countries, along with 22 additional interviews, according to a separate APA report on the study.
Middle Corridor Draws European Business
Twenty-five percent of surveyed companies said they already use the Middle Corridor or plan to use it, while another 24% said they were considering the trans-Caspian route within the next two to three years, according to the report’s transport findings.
European businesses described the route between Europe and Asia as a safer alternative, reinforcing demand for logistics and transport projects in Azerbaijan, including Nakhchivan and the territories undergoing reconstruction.
