Daily car rental prices in Azerbaijan range from about 40 manats ($24) for basic models in the regions to as much as 500 manats ($294) for premium vehicles in Baku.
Demand typically increases during the summer as residents and tourists travel to resort areas and other parts of the country.
In Astara, standard rental cars are available from around 40 manats ($24) per day. Sedans are the most popular choice, particularly for trips to destinations such as Gabala and Guba. Vehicles used for weddings and other special events cost more.
Prices are higher in Sheki, one of Azerbaijan’s main tourist destinations. Standard cars generally rent for 60 to 100 manats ($35 to $59) per day, while wedding vehicles cost around 200 to 250 manats ($118 to $147). Customers often rent cars for three, five or 10 days, with some companies offering discounts for longer bookings.
In Baku, daily rates start at approximately 50 manats ($29) and rise depending on the model. Premium vehicles can cost between 300 and 500 manats ($176 to $294) per day.
Rental requirements vary by company and location. Some regional operators rent vehicles to drivers aged 18 and older, provided they have a valid driver’s license. In Baku, some companies require customers to be at least 23 years old and have two or three years of driving experience.
Customers are generally required to sign a written agreement outlining the terms of use. Some rental companies also prohibit drivers from exceeding 120 kilometers per hour.
A deposit is usually collected before the vehicle is handed over. The money may be used to cover repairs if the car is returned with new damage.
Insurance is another major expense for rental companies. While a standard vehicle policy may cost around 1,000 manats ($588), insurance for a rental car can range from 1,600 to 1,800 manats ($941 to $1,059).
Transport expert Eldaniz Jafarov advised customers to carefully review rental agreements and inspect the vehicle before accepting it. Any scratches, dents or technical problems should be documented in advance.
Azerbaijan may also introduce a unified registry for car rental companies. The proposed system is expected to improve transparency and allow operators to exchange information about customers and rental activity.
