Azerbaijan’s planned Zangezur transport corridor will pass through Jahangirbeyli village in the Zangilan district, where a railway is also expected to operate, President Ilham Aliyev said.

Aliyev made the remarks Nov. 6 during a meeting with families returning to Jahangirbeyli and Soltanli, according to the Vesti Baku report.

He said the corridor’s route through Jahangirbeyli and the launch of railway service would give the village significant development potential. The area is expected to generate employment, while new schools and kindergartens will provide jobs for teachers and other staff.

About 700 Families Returning to Two Villages

Aliyev said a combined total of about 700 families were returning to Jahangirbeyli in Zangilan and Soltanli in the Jabrayil district. Housing has been built for the residents, and families received keys during the Jahangirbeyli event.

The Azerbaijani presidency confirmed the opening of Jahangirbeyli’s first phase and the presentation of housing keys on Nov. 6.

Aliyev said household plots and separate agricultural land would support farming. He identified livestock breeding and grain cultivation as possible sources of local employment and income.

Transport Link and Resettlement

The Horadiz-Aghband railway, described by the presidency as an important component of the Zangezur corridor, is intended to connect Azerbaijan’s transport network toward Nakhchivan. Construction of the related road and railway infrastructure has continued across the liberated territories.

Aliyev said nearly 100,000 people now live, study or work in Karabakh and East Zangezur. He linked the rebuilding program to the outcome of the 44-day war and said the revival of the region was also a way of honoring those killed.

The remarks followed the inauguration of the first phases of Jahangirbeyli and Soltanli. Jahangirbeyli’s first phase includes 242 detached homes, as well as a school, kindergarten, medical point, retail outlets and community facilities.
