Azerbaijani and Armenian officials have discussed potential electricity imports and exports, as well as options for linking the two countries’ power infrastructure at the state border.
The working-level meeting was held in Azerbaijan’s Lachin on Aug. 25, AZE.US reports.
The Azerbaijani delegation included representatives of the Energy Ministry and state power producer AzerEnergy. Armenia was represented by officials from its Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure and the country’s electricity system operator.
The parties examined possible arrangements for connecting their energy infrastructure at the border to enable two-way electricity trade.
No agreement, projected supply volumes or implementation schedule was announced.
The meeting is significant because it moves the emerging normalization process beyond political declarations and into discussions of practical cross-border infrastructure.
Azerbaijan has already begun allowing Russian cargo bound for Armenia to transit its territory. Baku has also exported diesel and gasoline directly to the Armenian market.
An electricity connection could create another layer of economic interdependence between the two countries, although the talks remain at an exploratory stage.
