Instructors from the U.S. Defense Language Institute have begun a four-month English-language program at Azerbaijan’s National Defense University.
The course is being held at the Foreign Language Center of the university’s Military Administration Institute, AZE.US reports, citing Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry.
American instructors will work with participants on listening, reading, writing and speaking skills.
The program is an educational language course, not a military exercise or combat training initiative.
English-language proficiency nevertheless has practical value for Azerbaijani service members participating in international education programs, peacekeeping missions and activities with Western defense institutions.
The U.S. Defense Language Institute provides foreign-language instruction to American personnel and supports language education programs involving partner countries.
The four-month course reflects continuing defense education cooperation between Baku and Washington at a time when Azerbaijan is seeking to maintain a diversified network of security partnerships.
