Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on July 11 opened a new hotel in Khankendi and reviewed several tourism, commercial and residential projects in Shusha.

The projects include a 101-room hotel in Khankendi, four new buildings added to the Yasaman Hotel complex in Shusha, and 10 privately financed buildings on the city’s Karabakh Street.

Ten New Buildings Completed In Shusha

Local investors have constructed 10 buildings of various types on Karabakh Street under a public-private partnership program.

The development includes a hotel, apartment hotels, offices and dining venues.

Officials said particular attention was paid to ensuring that the new buildings matched Shusha’s architectural appearance while expanding the city’s tourism and commercial infrastructure.

The project is expected to support economic activity and improve services for residents and visitors.

Yasaman Hotel Expands With Four New Buildings

Aliyev also reviewed four new buildings at the Yasaman Hotel, which was restored by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

The hotel originally opened in 2023 with the participation of Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.

The main building, constructed in the mid-19th century in the style of the Karabakh school of architecture, had been destroyed during the period of occupation.

Two restored hotel buildings are already receiving guests. Restoration and construction work has now been completed on four additional buildings.

The new boutique-style sections were designed around the architectural features of traditional Shusha homes and include enclosed balconies and terrace areas.

Doors and windows were recreated using archival photographs to preserve the original architectural style. Landscaping and improvement work was also completed around the property.

New Khankendi Hotel Can Accommodate 236 Guests

Aliyev later attended the opening of the Khankendi Hotel.

The four-story building has 101 rooms and can accommodate up to 236 guests at one time.

The hotel includes 92 deluxe rooms, four superior rooms, three deluxe suites and two executive suites.

Cafes, restaurants and a gym will also operate inside the complex.

The hotel is expected to employ 45 people. Twenty of the jobs will go to residents of territories restored to Azerbaijani control.

Officials said the project forms part of a broader effort to develop tourism infrastructure in Khankendi through new hotels, leisure facilities and dining venues.

First 15 Families Return To Kichik Galadarasi

Aliyev also visited Kichik Galadarasi village in the Shusha district, where he reviewed the restoration of homes and infrastructure and met residents who had returned.

The village has 66 private houses. Nineteen are considered unfit for use, while 47 are partially suitable for restoration.

A total of 26 homes are now ready for occupancy. Another 21 are expected to be completed next year.

The first 15 families, comprising 51 people, have already returned. Another 11 families, or 45 residents, are expected to move back by the end of 2026.

New gas and water lines have been installed, an artesian well has been restored and 26 homes have been connected to the water network.

A transformer station has also been installed, overhead electricity lines have been restored and local roads have been paved. A park and a national flag square were also built.

Kichik Galadarasi is located about 40 kilometers southwest of Shusha. Azerbaijan regained control of the village following the September 2023 operation.

Before the conflict, residents primarily worked in livestock farming, vegetable production and beekeeping. The village previously had a school, kindergarten, cultural center, library, medical point and communications office.
