BAKU - Azerbaijan and the European Union are working on a new comprehensive bilateral agreement and updated partnership priorities, presidential aide Hikmat Hajiyev said after talks in Baku.

Hajiyev made the comments after meeting a delegation from the EU Council’s Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia, known as COEST. The delegation included representatives of more than 20 European countries, according to Report.az.

He said the two sides expanded their security engagement in 2026 into a Political and Security Dialogue format.

Hajiyev described Azerbaijan’s contribution to Europe’s energy security and the country’s role in regional connectivity through the Middle Corridor as central elements of the relationship.

Talks Cover Energy, Technology and Investment

Baku also wants to broaden cooperation with the EU in clean energy, digital transformation, innovation and investment. Hajiyev called the relationship strategic and said high-level contacts and political dialogue had intensified.

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry said delegations held negotiations in Baku on June 2-3 over the comprehensive agreement and preliminarily agreed partnership priorities for 2026-2030.

No timetable has been announced for completing or signing the wider bilateral agreement. Vesti Baku reported Hajiyev’s latest comments in Russian.
