Bolt ‘Sober Driver’ Damages Car in Masazir, Owner Says

A Masazir resident says a “sober driver” ordered through the Bolt app damaged his car on Oct. 23, leaving a dispute over roughly 400 manats in repairs.

The owner said he ordered the service after visiting a restaurant because he had consumed alcohol and did not want to drive. He alleged that the driver struck obstacles during the trip and damaged the vehicle’s front-right bumper.

The owner put the damage at about 400 manats. The figure is his estimate; no independent assessment was cited.

Responsibility Depends on the Contract

The car owner said the company told him the driver was responsible. He said he was unable to reach the service provider directly and initially received no concrete resolution after contacting Bolt.

Lawyer Emil Aslanov said the agreement between the driver and the company should be examined first. The terms of that relationship and the customer contract could determine how the damage must be compensated.

The television report said Bolt had been asked for comment and had promised a response, but no detailed explanation had been received by the time the report was prepared.

Bolt Says Reimbursement Was Offered

In a response later published by Azerbaijani media, Bolt said it is a technology platform connecting customers with independent drivers and partner fleets rather than employing the drivers directly. The company said each complaint is reviewed individually and that, in this case, the service provider had offered to cover the costs.

The circumstances remain based largely on the customer’s account, and no court finding of liability was reported.
