Uzbekistan plans to begin full-scale production of Chevrolet Cobalt cars in Azerbaijan in 2027 as part of an $84.3 million automotive project.

A new full-cycle vehicle manufacturing plant will be built in the Hajigabul district by Azerbaijan’s Azermash CP and Uzbekistan’s Uzavtosanoat, Uzbek Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Khurram Teshabayev said in an interview with Report.

According to Teshabayev, the main preparatory work has already been completed. Suppliers have been selected, while technological equipment and production lines have been ordered.

The new manufacturing complex is expected to become operational in mid-2027. Once launched, production will move from large-unit vehicle assembly to a full industrial cycle.

The transition is expected to significantly increase output and allow the plant to expand the range of vehicles produced in Azerbaijan. The Chevrolet Cobalt will be one of the main models manufactured at the facility.

Azerbaijan to Produce More Auto Components

The second phase of the project will focus on gradually increasing local production.

Plans include using more components manufactured in Azerbaijan, creating a network of domestic suppliers and introducing more complex technological processes.

Teshabayev said the project would increase the amount of value created inside Azerbaijan, support related industries and contribute to the development of a modern automotive manufacturing ecosystem.

He described the Hajigabul project as one of the most successful examples of industrial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

Large-unit assembly of Chevrolet vehicles and Isuzu buses began at the existing Hajigabul facility in 2022. More than 9,000 vehicles have been assembled there to date.
