Three additional sleeping cars will be added to trains operating on the Baku-Tbilisi-Baku international route from July 10, increasing capacity and offering passengers lower-priced travel options.
Azerbaijan Railways, or ADY, said the extra cars will provide 104 additional passenger places on each service. Total capacity will rise by nearly 60%, from 178 to 282 passengers.
The newly added cars are refurbished sleeping coaches previously used on domestic railway routes. Each car has 36 berths.
One-way Standard Plus fares to Tbilisi will start at:
- Baku: 65.20 manats, about $38
- Yevlakh: 53.30 manats, about $31
- Ganja: 49.30 manats, about $29
- Aghstafa: 45.30 manats, about $27
- Boyuk Kesik: 43.40 manats, about $26
- Gardabani: 40.30 manats, about $24
Passengers traveling in the additional cars will be allowed to carry up to 36 kilograms of luggage free of charge, compared with a 23-kilogram limit in other cars.
Mobile food and beverage sales will also be available during the journey.
Tickets for the additional cars are already on sale for travel between July 10 and August 6. Around 5,500 tickets have been released for the period.
ADY said demand is particularly strong for trains traveling from Tbilisi to Baku. High traffic may occasionally cause delays in the online booking system.
Tickets are currently released 30 days before departure. The railway company is also working to extend the advance booking period to 90 days.
