Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met on July 7 with U.S. Senator Steve Daines, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and chairman of its Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation.
Aliyev said relations between Azerbaijan and the United States had developed successfully on the basis of cooperation and mutual trust since Donald Trump returned to the White House.
He noted that bilateral ties had been elevated to the level of a strategic partnership, describing the development as important for both countries and the wider region.
The Azerbaijani president also recalled U.S. Vice President JD Vance’s visit to Baku and the signing of the Charter on Strategic Partnership between the two governments. He said the agreement had created new opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation.
Aliyev highlighted Trump’s role in advancing the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and said his personal relationship with the U.S. president remained strong.
Daines, in turn, said ties between Washington and Baku had strengthened in recent months. He described Aliyev’s visit to Washington in August last year as a significant event and praised Azerbaijan’s growing geopolitical role.
The senator also thanked Aliyev for his leadership in efforts to normalize relations with Armenia and move the regional peace agenda forward.
The meeting included discussions on the importance of the TRIPP corridor for regional transport connectivity, stronger dialogue between Azerbaijan and the U.S. Senate, and the future of the bilateral partnership.
