Customers of Azerbaijan’s ABB bank have reported unexpected withdrawals from their payment cards, with some accounts allegedly falling into negative balances.
According to Ölkə.az, several customers wrote on social media that money disappeared from their accounts after ordinary card transactions.
One customer said he had nearly 70 manats ($41.18) remaining after paying for fuel. However, when he later attempted to make a 3.50-manat ($2.06) purchase at a grocery store, the cashier told him there were insufficient funds on the card.
The customer said he then checked his balance at an ABB terminal and discovered that the remaining funds had disappeared and the account showed a negative balance of 84.36 manats ($49.62).
He said employees at an ABB branch told him that a technical problem had caused funds to be incorrectly deducted from multiple customers’ accounts.
ABB’s press service confirmed that its system had experienced a brief technical disruption.
The bank said additional funds had been deducted from some cards because of a technical issue involving a third-party service provider.
“The problem will be resolved shortly,” the bank said.
Customers are advised to review their balances and recent transaction histories and contact ABB if they notice any unauthorized or incorrect charges.
