Azerbaijan’s September Trade Surplus Shrinks 7.4-Fold

Must read

Azerbaijan’s foreign-trade surplus narrowed about 7.4-fold in September 2026 compared with August, falling from approximately 1.60 billion manats ($941.7 million) to 216.9 million manats ($127.6 million).

The calculation is based on the monthly table in the State Customs Committee’s official January-September foreign-trade bulletin.

Exports in September totaled about 3.49 billion manats ($2.05 billion), down roughly 17.5% from 4.22 billion manats ($2.48 billion) in August. Imports increased about 24.6%, from approximately 2.62 billion manats ($1.54 billion) to 3.26 billion manats ($1.92 billion).

The convergence of those two figures sharply reduced the monthly surplus. The balance nevertheless remained positive because exports still exceeded imports.

Nine-Month Surplus Remains Higher

Azerbaijan recorded a cumulative trade surplus of about 17.88 billion manats ($10.519 billion) in January-September, 5.7 times the level reported for the same period of 2025, according to figures cited by Report.

Nine-month exports reached approximately 40.57 billion manats ($23.865 billion), while imports totaled about 22.69 billion manats ($13.346 billion). The steep month-to-month contraction in September therefore should not be confused with a deterioration in the cumulative balance compared with last year.
