Media Name 22 Witnesses in Ramiz Mehdiyev Case

The investigation into the criminal case against former Azerbaijani Presidential Administration chief Ramiz Mehdiyev has been completed, and the case has reportedly been sent to the Baku Court on Grave Crimes.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 21, AZE.US reports, citing Azerbaijani media. Mehdiyev’s former aide, Eldar Amirov, is also listed as a defendant and is expected to be tried in the same proceedings.

Gununsesi.info reported that the indictment names 22 witnesses. They include Mehdiyev’s son, Teymur Mehdiyev; his son-in-law, Ilham Alisaftar oghlu Aliyev; political analyst Eldar Namazov; and Azerbaijan Democratic Party chairman Sardar Jalaloglu.

Some of the witnesses are expected to testify during the trial. Being named as a witness does not imply that a person is suspected or accused of any wrongdoing.

According to media reports, Mehdiyev faces charges under Articles 274, 278.1 and 193-1.3.2 of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code, covering treason, actions aimed at forcibly seizing or retaining power or changing the constitutional order, and laundering property obtained through crime.
