Fish and seafood prices in Azerbaijan rose 1.9% in September from August and 8.5% from a year earlier, although vendors surveyed at Baku markets said prices for many popular varieties had changed little.

The figures from Azerbaijan’s State Statistics Committee were cited in a television report examining current market prices.

Fish trading picked up with the arrival of autumn as shoppers compared prices and varieties. Markets offered both locally sourced fish and imported products.

Trout was generally priced at 11 to 15 manats ($6.47 to $8.82) per kilogram, depending on its size and the seller. One vendor quoted 11 manats, another offered trout at 12 manats, and larger fish sold for 14 to 15 manats.

Prices at the surveyed outlets included:

  • Zander from Nakhchivan: 14-15 manats ($8.24-$8.82) per kilogram;
  • Carp from Nakhchivan: 12 manats ($7.06);
  • Carp described by a vendor as sea-caught: 10 manats ($5.88);
  • Grass carp: 9 manats ($5.29);
  • Sea bream: 18 manats ($10.59);
  • Norwegian salmon: 33-35 manats ($19.41-$20.59);
  • Beluga, described by a vendor as imported from Iran: 34-35 manats ($20-$20.59).

Vendors disputed that there had been a sharp increase in the specific varieties they sold. They said trout had cost around 12 to 13 manats per kilogram a year earlier, while imported salmon had sold for 32 to 33 manats.

Some shoppers also described prices as stable. One said grass carp still cost 9 manats per kilogram, the same as last year. Another said he bought large trout for 13 manats per kilogram, compared with 13 to 14 manats previously.

Official statistics nevertheless show an increase across the broader “fish and fish products” category. The examples supplied by vendors and shoppers cover only individual species and specific retail locations.

For the first nine months of 2026, average fish and seafood prices were 8.3% higher than during the same period of 2025, according to published State Statistics Committee data.
