BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 30 - Competitive prices, extensive equipment and lower operating costs are making Chinese vehicles increasingly attractive to buyers in Azerbaijan, automotive expert Elmaddin Novruzov said.

Novruzov told Demokrat.az that demand has grown for brands including BYD, Changan, JAC, Dongfeng, GAC and Geely.

Price and Equipment Drive Demand

One of the main advantages of Chinese models is their price-to-value ratio, Novruzov said. Buyers are looking at comfort, modern technology and equipment that meets their everyday needs, while some models also offer useful off-road capability.

The combination allows consumers to obtain features that may cost substantially more in vehicles from established international manufacturers.

Plug-In Hybrids Seen as a Growth Segment

Novruzov said Chinese manufacturers are likely to expand their share of the global market over the next several years, particularly in the plug-in hybrid segment.

Plug-in hybrids combine an internal-combustion engine with an electric motor and a battery that can be charged from an external power source. That arrangement can allow drivers to use electricity for routine trips, reduce fuel consumption and retain the flexibility of a gasoline engine for longer journeys.

According to Novruzov, those practical advantages are helping make the technology appealing to Azerbaijani consumers. Continued growth in Chinese vehicle sales and plug-in hybrids could further reshape competition in the country’s automotive market.
