WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump denied that the United States offered Iran sanctions relief or access to frozen funds in exchange for concessions over Tehran’s nuclear program.
“This is untrue. I offered them NOTHING,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday, rejecting reports based on unnamed U.S. officials.
Reuters reported on Sept. 29 that Axios and CNN had cited U.S. officials as saying Trump was prepared to ease sanctions and release Iranian funds if Tehran made “concrete progress” on the nuclear issue.
Indirect Contacts Continue
U.S. and Iranian representatives remained in separate contact with mediators on Monday, according to Vesti Baku. The main disputes concern what nuclear steps Iran would take, the sequence of measures and which side would act first.
Iran says it does not seek nuclear weapons and maintains that it has the right to develop a civilian nuclear energy program. Washington says preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon remains a central objective.
The diplomatic channel remains open, but Trump’s denial casts doubt on whether the United States is prepared to promise sanctions or financial relief before Tehran takes verifiable steps.
