Trout is selling for 12 to 13 manats per kilogram at surveyed fish outlets in Azerbaijan, while vendors say customer demand remains weak and prices for some varieties have risen.
Several sellers interviewed in a market report said weekday sales were slow, with more customers typically arriving on weekends.
Vendors said trout prices had increased by between 50 qepiks and 1.5 manats, depending on the seller. They attributed the change to reduced foreign supplies, including shipments from Iran, saying prices tend to fall when more fish reaches the market and rise when deliveries decline.
The report did not include import statistics, so the vendors’ comments alone do not establish the direction of fish imports nationwide.
Fish Prices Quoted by Vendors
Prices per kilogram at the outlets shown in the report were:
| Fish | Price |
|---|---|
| Trout | 12-13 manats |
| Carp | 7-9 manats |
| Astrakhan carp | 9 manats |
| Grass carp | 8-10 manats |
| Perch | 6-7 manats |
| Zander | 14-16 manats |
| Salmon | 35 manats |
Sellers described trout as one of the more popular choices because of its taste, fat content and relatively small number of bones.
Shoppers gave mixed assessments of the market. Some said fish was too expensive and that they could not afford the variety they wanted, while others considered current prices acceptable. Opinions also differed over whether carp remained affordable.
Vendors said they hoped prices would fall soon, but the report provided no timetable or confirmed evidence of an increase in supply.
