The Baku Grave Crimes Court has scheduled the trial of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Chairman Ali Karimli and his deputy Mammad Ibrahim to begin on Nov. 13.
At a preliminary hearing on Nov. 3, a panel chaired by Judge Vugar Guliyev confirmed the defendants’ personal information and ruled that the criminal case should proceed to trial, according to Vesti Baku.
Karimli and Ibrahim have been charged under Article 278.1 of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code, which covers actions allegedly aimed at seizing power by force or forcibly changing the constitutional order. The wording reflects the prosecution’s allegation; the court has not issued a verdict on guilt.
The preliminary hearing did not examine the evidence on its merits. The next hearing, when the substantive proceedings are due to begin, is scheduled for Nov. 13.
Azerbaijan’s State Security Service conducted the investigation. Report independently confirmed the hearing date, judge and charge.
