Azerbaijan’s parliament ratified a Treaty of Eternal Friendship with Uzbekistan on Nov. 3 and separately approved an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in pension provision.
Both documents were adopted in a single reading during a plenary session of the Milli Majlis. A parliamentary committee had recommended them for consideration on Oct. 29.
Treaty Covers Security and Economic Cooperation
The friendship treaty was signed Aug. 23 during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit to Uzbekistan. It places bilateral relations on the basis of strategic partnership, alliance and mutual trust.
Under the agreement, the countries commit not to join alliances that could harm the other side’s sovereignty, security or territorial integrity. They also pledge not to allow their territory to be used by third countries for such actions.
The treaty covers trade, investment, energy, transportation, logistics, digital development, agriculture, electronic commerce and space technologies. It also highlights interconnected transport routes and the countries’ transit potential.
Separate Pension Agreement Approved
The pension agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between the two governments. Published reports did not specify the detailed procedures for recognizing work history or assigning and paying benefits.
The ratifications were confirmed by APA and Report.
