Damage to 434 cultural monuments in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories has been estimated at 700.154 million manats, or approximately $411.9 million, a senior heritage official said.
Sabina Hajiyeva, head of the State Service for the Protection, Development and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, said 575 of the 749 known monuments in the territories had undergone inventory assessments.
That number includes 196 sites in Shusha.
Monitoring found that 68 monuments had been completely destroyed, while another 115 sustained extensive damage. Other sites were damaged to varying degrees.
Among the state-registered sites completely destroyed were nine mausoleums, three cemeteries and seven mosques.
Another 25 mosques, 14 mausoleums and two burial structures suffered varying levels of damage.
Specialists conducting the assessments created digital maps, photographed the sites, recorded drone footage and reviewed archival documents.
The inventory of the remaining monuments in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur is continuing.
