More than 537,000 metric tons of cargo were handled at Azerbaijan Railways’ Astara terminal in Iran in January-August 2026, about 30% more than a year earlier, the railway company said.
In August alone, cargo handling reached 76,000 tons, a 50% increase from the same month in 2025.
Capacity Set to Reach 4 Million Tons
The terminal is on Iranian territory and handles freight on the Azerbaijan-Iran transport route. Construction at the facility is nearing completion.
Latest Stories
Once it reaches full capacity, the terminal is expected to handle 3.5 million to 4 million tons of cargo a year, several times its current volume. The expansion is intended to increase regional freight capacity.
