BAKU - Azerbaijan plans to complete new general-education standards by the end of 2026, adding digital citizenship and cross-disciplinary competencies across school subjects.
Elnur Aliyev, acting director of the Institute of Education and Science, announced the plan during a session at the seventh World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku, according to a report citing Report.az. Vesti Baku also covered the announcement.
Skills to Be Integrated Across Subjects
The draft introduces an additional competency framework and a cross-disciplinary approach. Universal skills would be developed through multiple subjects instead of being confined to a single course.
Digital citizenship and intercultural dialogue are among the elements planned for the new standards. The framework is intended to integrate knowledge, skills, attitudes and values at every school level, from primary through upper-secondary education.
Aliyev said the new approach would treat citizenship as a distinct competency and require different subjects to help students develop the same broad abilities.
The current target concerns completion of the draft document. Authorities have not yet announced when the standards will be approved, take effect or become mandatory for schools.
