ISTANBUL - Turkey’s presidential communications office has denied reports that a bust of Heydar Aliyev in a park bearing his name in Istanbul’s Sisli district would be removed and that a cultural center would be built on the site.

The denial was issued by the Center for Countering Disinformation under the Turkish presidency’s Directorate of Communications.

The center said Sisli municipality was not carrying out any work at the park and that no cultural center project for the site was on the agenda.

It described the social media claims as unfounded and said they amounted to provocation and disinformation aimed at relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey. The agency urged the public not to rely on the reports.

The statement was also reported by Turkish and Azerbaijani news organizations, which cited the center’s official social media account.
