Armenian Investigator Says Azerbaijani Serviceman Had No Intent to Kill

Armenia’s Investigative Committee chief, Artur Poghosyan, said Azerbaijani serviceman Nasimi Musayev, who is being held in Armenia, did not intend to kill anyone.

APA reported Poghosyan’s comments, citing Sputnik Armenia. Poghosyan said Musayev became lost because of fog, had been questioned and had given testimony. The investigation remains underway.

According to the Armenian official’s account, Musayev walked to a residential house, broke a window, entered the building, prepared food and changed his clothes.

When children entered the house, he took their telephone and made them sit down but did not harm them, Poghosyan said.

Musayev was performing compulsory military service in a unit stationed in the Lachin area when he disappeared on Sept. 26.

Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General’s Office previously said the military prosecutor had opened a case after reasonable suspicion arose that he had left his unit without authorization.

It later emerged that Musayev was in Armenia and had been detained by local authorities. An Armenian court ordered that he remain in custody.

Azerbaijani agencies are in contact with the Armenian side to clarify the circumstances of his arrival and detention.
