Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz field produced about 20 billion cubic meters of gas and 3 million metric tons of condensate in the first nine months of 2026, while BP advanced several other projects in the country.
The figures came from BP’s January-September business update for Azerbaijan, Vesti Baku reported. Separate reporting based on the update also confirmed the production and spending figures.
Shah Deniz Spending Reaches $3.08 Billion
Gas and condensate were produced from the Shah Deniz Alpha and Shah Deniz Bravo platforms. BP and its partners spent about $2.002 billion on operating expenses and $1.078 billion on capital expenditure during the nine-month period.
The combined production capacity of the existing Shah Deniz facilities is about 79 million cubic meters of gas per day, equivalent to about 28.8 billion cubic meters a year.
New Well Starts Production at Deepwater Gunashli
A new production well was brought online at the Deepwater Gunashli platform near the end of the third quarter. It targets oil reserves in formations also being studied under the free-gas project at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli block.
BP expects the well to provide additional geological information for evaluating further development of those formations. Free-gas production at ACG began in the first half of the year, with gas and condensate sent to the Sangachal terminal through existing infrastructure.
Sangachal Electrification Project 90% Complete
Overall progress on electrifying the Sangachal terminal reached 90% by the end of September. Work on the Shah Deniz 2 section moved from major construction to testing and commissioning preparations, while construction continued on the ACG section.
Upgrades to Azerenergy’s state-grid facilities outside the terminal have been completed. The electrification project is intended to reduce the terminal’s use of gas turbines and lower operational emissions.
