BAKU - Azerbaijan has elevated relations with the United States to a new strategic level and expects Washington to maintain its attention to the region, presidential foreign policy adviser Hikmet Hajiyev said.

Hajiyev spoke on Oct. 2 at the CAMCA 2026 Regional Forum in Baku, according to Vesti Baku.

He linked the new phase in part to the Aug. 8, 2025, summit in Washington and said Baku had used the opportunity to deepen bilateral ties.

Relations With Russia and Iran

Hajiyev described Azerbaijan’s relationship with Russia as stable and normal, developing on the basis of good-neighborly relations.

On Iran, he said Baku remained committed to noninterference and good-neighborly ties. He said Azerbaijani territory could not be used for action against neighboring states and argued that sanctions on Iran also damage economic activity across the region.

Hajiyev also cited Azerbaijan’s good relations with Israel and reaffirmed support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with East Jerusalem recognized as the capital of Palestine.

He added that Azerbaijan and China were working on practical implementation of their comprehensive strategic partnership.
