BAKU - Demining teams found and neutralized 908 land mines and 4,525 other explosive items in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories during September, the country’s mine-action agency said.

The total included 757 anti-personnel mines and 151 anti-tank mines, according to the monthly figures released by the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action, or ANAMA.

Teams cleared 6,667.1 hectares during the month, Report.az reported. Vesti Baku also reported the figures.

The operations involved ANAMA, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry and Emergency Situations Ministry, five local organizations and one nongovernmental organization.

Clearance work was carried out in Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khankendi, Shusha, Khojavand, Lachin, Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Gubadli and Zangilan, as well as in the liberated villages of Baganis Ayrim, Ashagi Askipara, Kheyrimli and Gizilhajili in the Gazakh district.

The continuing discoveries underscore the danger that mines and unexploded ordnance pose to returning residents and to reconstruction and infrastructure projects.
