BAKU - Azerbaijan’s state energy company SOCAR has completed a three-dimensional ocean-bottom-node seismic survey covering 247.6 square kilometers of the shallow-water section of the Gunashli oil field.
The survey was SOCAR’s first 3D OBN project in the Caspian Sea, the company’s Azneft production unit said, according to Vesti Baku.
The newly collected high-resolution data will be used to refine the field’s geological model and identify potential targets for future drilling.
Data to Guide Future Wells
The survey is expected to provide a more detailed picture of the reservoir layers, tectonic faults and hydrocarbon-bearing formations in an area that is already producing oil and gas.
SOCAR described the project as an important step in expanding the use of modern geophysical technology in the Caspian. The results are intended to improve estimates of the remaining potential at Gunashli and reduce uncertainty when the company plans new wells.
The technology places seismic sensors on the seabed, allowing operators to collect detailed subsurface data that can support development decisions at mature offshore fields.
