Azerbaijani Investment in Georgia Reaches Nearly $4 Billion

Azerbaijan has invested nearly $4 billion in Georgia and has become the neighboring country’s largest foreign investor, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov said.

Bilateral trade rose 42% in the first nine months of 2026 and approached $1 billion, Asadov said at the 11th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Georgia intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Sighnaghi on Oct. 30.

Trade from January through September already exceeded the total for all of 2025, he said, describing Georgia as one of Azerbaijan’s main trading partners.

Transport and Energy Cooperation

The Middle Corridor was a central topic at the meeting. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is expected to have annual capacity of up to 5 million metric tons of cargo when it reaches full operation.

The two sides also discussed energy cooperation. Azerbaijani gas is now exported to 16 countries, according to Asadov, and Baku and Tbilisi have begun work on a green-energy corridor to Europe.

Asadov said Azerbaijan increased an electricity-capacity exchange at Georgia’s request after a serious failure in the Georgian power system in July. The higher exchange level remains in place, he said.

Documents Planned After Talks

Asadov and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze held a separate meeting before the commission session. The sides planned to sign several documents after the talks, although their titles and final status had not been announced when the report was prepared.

Kobakhidze described economic cooperation as one of the pillars of the two countries’ strategic partnership. He also said the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia could create additional opportunities for regional development.
