A new fixed offshore platform has entered service at Azerbaijan’s Western Absheron field, with the first well completed and producing, according to SOCAR’s Azneft production division.
Platform No. 50 is designed to support a total of 16 wells. It was built at a field managed by the Absheronneft oil and gas production unit of SOCAR’s Azneft Production Union.
Azneft said drilling and completion of the first well were successful. Work on the remaining wells will follow a geological model developed with modern software systems.
The company did not disclose the platform’s cost, the timetable for drilling all 16 wells or the expected increase in production.
The platform therefore represents the start of new production infrastructure, but the information released so far does not allow its eventual contribution to Azerbaijan’s overall oil output to be calculated.
The commissioning was reported by Vesti Baku.
