Aliyev Expected at COP31, but Attendance Not Yet Officially Confirmed

Must read

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is expected to attend the COP31 leaders’ summit in Antalya on Nov. 11-12, according to media reports, although his office had not officially confirmed the trip at the time of publication.

APA reported, citing Turkish media, that Aliyev would take part in the United Nations climate conference. A Turkish report used more cautious language, saying his participation was expected and that no final program for the visit or possible bilateral meetings had been disclosed.

No announcement confirming the trip appeared on the official website of the president of Azerbaijan when the report was published. The information therefore remained a media report rather than a formally announced presidential decision.

Invitation Was Issued in September

The invitation itself was officially confirmed. Türkiye’s Communications Directorate said President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan invited Aliyev to the COP31 summit during their meeting in Bishkek on Sept. 1.

COP31 is scheduled for Nov. 9-20 at the Antalya EXPO Center. According to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Antalya Leaders’ Summit will take place Nov. 11-12, with national statements, bilateral meetings and other high-level events on the program.

The conference is expected to focus on implementation of climate commitments, sustainable development, climate finance and international cooperation. Aliyev’s participation will be confirmed once an official schedule or announcement is released.
