BAKU, Azerbaijan - Azerbaijan opened a renovated stadium, a university emergency department and two factories in Khankendi and Aghdam on Nov. 7, while advancing construction of medical and university facilities across Karabakh.
President Ilham Aliyev visited the projects during a regional tour, Vesti Baku reported.
Stadium and Medical Infrastructure
Khankendi City Stadium reopened after a major overhaul that brought it into compliance with UEFA Category 3 standards. The stadium has 8,554 seats, including 59 places for media representatives and 30 for spectators with disabilities.
An emergency department opened at Garabagh University Clinic. It has 19 emergency beds, resuscitation and pediatric areas, while the clinic has 70 inpatient beds, including five intensive-care beds, and five operating rooms. The clinic expects to employ 230 to 250 people under its 2027 development plan.
Construction is continuing on the 210-bed Aghdam District Central Hospital. The complex covers more than six hectares and is designed to include reception and emergency care, surgery, cardiology, pediatrics, general and pediatric outpatient clinics, a laboratory, diagnostic imaging, hemodialysis, physiotherapy and rehabilitation services.
Library, Innovation and New Production
Aliyev also attended groundbreaking ceremonies for a library and an Innovation Center at Garabagh University. The planned four-story library will have reading halls for about 1,100 students at a time. The Innovation Center is intended to support student projects, entrepreneurship, the practical use of research and cooperation between the university and industry.
The ASMC metal-products plant opened in the Aghdam Industrial Park. The two-phase project is valued at 24.9 million manats and will produce steel mesh, wire, nails and reinforcing products for domestic use and export. The plant currently employs 26 people and is expected to provide 100 permanent jobs at full capacity.
A second plant, operated by Komfy, is designed to produce 130,000 orthopedic mattresses a year. The 2.5-million-manat project will create 65 permanent jobs. Its compressed roll-pack production is intended to reduce transport costs and expand export opportunities.
The Aghdam Industrial Park has 39 registered enterprises. Their declared projects are valued at 375.5 million manats, with 192.6 million manats already invested. More than 1,000 people are employed in the park’s projects.
