Flower Prices Surge in Azerbaijan Ahead of Valentine’s Day

Rising demand before February 14 has pushed flower prices several times higher in Baku and regional markets, with bouquets in some areas reaching up to 140 manats.

Flower shops across Azerbaijan are experiencing a seasonal surge in activity ahead of Valentine’s Day, as strong consumer demand drives sharp price increases in both the capital and regional cities.

Vendors say prices for many flowers are now three to four times higher than on ordinary days.

Roses and hydrangeas remain the most sought-after options. Standard roses begin at roughly 5 manats, selected varieties reach 6-10 manats, while individual hydrangea stems can cost 2-25 manats. When arranged into bouquets, prices typically start from 50 manats and above.

Similar trends are visible outside Baku.

In the Tovuz region, popular bouquet prices range from about 50 to 140 manats, while in Zagatala consumers are also purchasing complementary gifts such as soft toys, chocolates, and souvenirs alongside flowers. Individual roses there sell for roughly 3-6 manats, depending on origin and color.

Although buyers often prioritize the symbolic meaning of the gift, the sharp seasonal price rise has also generated visible dissatisfaction among consumers.

Market participants say final costs vary based on flower type, bouquet composition, and import origin, suggesting that elevated prices may persist through the holiday period as demand remains strong.
